Chartering: A Practical Approach
True to its name, this course is practically oriented and taught by individuals with extensive chartering experience. Several sessions on the course address the legal issues associated with charter parties, including recent decisions that may alter long standing interpretation and practice. Other topics which feature in the course include:
- Chartering techniques
- Negotiating skills
- Avoiding costly post fixture disputes
- Minimising exposure under certain charter parties
- Laytime and demurrage law and practice
- How to reduce the risk of fraud
- Pollution liability
Case study
A case study has been created for the course which develops the main topics in parallel with the lectures. The case study has two distinct threads, one dealing with tanker chartering, the other with dry-bulk chartering. This design feature will allow participants a choice of markets to work, thereby strengthening their understanding of these businesses.
